Tom Solesbury

Tom is a double Olympian (rowing, 2008 and 2012) and channels all the dedication and determination ingrained from his time as an elite athlete into getting the best possible results for his clients.

Sports Law

Tom has experience in a variety of matters for sporting organisations and individuals and has advised National Governing Bodies, Leagues, Teams, National Organisations and Olympic medalists. Tom specialises in all contentious matters including High Court proceedings, arbitration and disciplinary cases.

Employment Law

Tom has experience across the full range of employment services. He represents clients in complex Employment Tribunal and High Court litigation


Recent Experience

  • Successfully representing the English Football League in a challenge to Financial Fair Play Rules brought by QPR.

  • Defending a Formula 1 Team in Commercial Court proceedings.

  • Successfully representing high profile sports people in confidential anti-doping proceedings.

  • Advising UK Sport and the British Judo Association by way of the review of the circumstances in which the BJA lost the right to stage the European Judo Union’s European Judo Championships.

  • Acting for an employer client to obtain  a wide ranging injunction against an employer for misappropriation of confidential information.

  • Successfully defending a charity in the Employment Tribunal against claims of unfair dismissal and disability discrimination.

  • Successfully defending an employer client in unfair dismissal proceedings.

  • Advising clients on various dismissal procedures including in relation to issues of gross misconduct and redundancy.

  • Advising on the employment issues arising from the restructure of several departments of a large manufacturing client.

  • Various arbitrator appointments including in relation to selection appeals and safeguarding matters in sport.



Tom is a Specialist Arbitrator for Sport Resolutions, the independent sport’s dispute service, in disputes involving Athlete Selection & Eligibility, Employment & Discrimination, Integrity & Discipline and Paralympic and Disability. He is also a member of the British Rowing Disciplinary and Grievance Panel. 

Tom is Chair of the Performance Sub-Committee for British Wheelchair Basketball. 

Tom is also an ambassador for the Muscle Help Foundation – a charity which provides transformational experiences known as ‘muscle dreams’ for young people with Muscular Dystrophy.
